Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Order Your Repeat Prescription Online

Repeat Prescriptions

If you need regular medication, we can issue repeat prescriptions without having to see you each time. When you first register for this service, you will need to see the doctor to set this up. A computer-generated re-order form will then accompany each prescription.

If you have a repeat prescription facility set up, you can re-order in any of the following ways:

Drop your request into the repeat prescription box at the surgery
Post it to the surgery
Visit our website at www.wilsonstreetsurgery.co.uk and click on the tab 'Online Prescription Service'.

We cannot accept telephone or faxed requests for repeat prescriptions.

Please note that it is not possible to request your repeat prescription more than 14 days in advance when ordering online.

We can post your prescription to you if you supply a stamped addressed envelope, but you may also collect prescriptions in person from the surgery during normal opening hours.Your prescription will be ready 48 hours after we receive your request. You do not need to ring to ask if it is ready beforehand.From time to time we will ask to see you to review your treatment.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

From 1 April 2009, the charges are:

Prescription (per item): £7.20
12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00
3-month PPC: £28.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. The charge for a single prescription item is £7.20, whereas a three month PPC will cost you £28.25 and a 12 month PPC £104.00.

Practice Collection Service

If you take medication on repeat prescription you may wish to take advantage of a free service offered by several of the local pharmacies. They will offer to collect prescriptions from the surgery and have the medication ready for collection at an agreed time at their premises. In certain special circumstances they may also be prepared to deliver, such as to the elderly, disabled and housebound.

If you wish to take advantage of this service you can find out which pharmacies participate by phoning your normal pharmacist or asking at the surgery reception.Please complete this form and pass it to the pharmacy of your choice and then when you need repeat medication in future order the medication from the surgery and the pharmacy will be able to arrange collection.
